Brighten a door, a window, a fence, a gate, or a wall with a Christmas wreath. Wreaths are traditionally made in a circle with no beginning and no end. Christmas is a celebration of the coming of the light of the world and the promise of life without end. Christmas wreaths are a beautiful symbol of the season. Natural wreaths are expensive to buy, but can be made inexpensively.

How to Make the Wreath
Click the picture below for a larger view.
- Make a loop of wire on the back of the wreath for hanging.
- Push a bamboo skewer about halfway into one end of each wine cork. Use the awl, if needed, to make it easier to insert the skewer. Cut the skewers to about 3" beyond the end of the corks, they can be more accurately trimmed later.
- Use the awl to make holes in the other end of each cork for the wire from the berries.
- Pull apart the berry sprays, leaving about 1/2" stem on each berry. Place a berry in the end of each cork.
- Push the skewers into the back of the grapevine wreath so that the corks go all around the wreath. Wire the skewers in place with the florist wire, and trim the ends of the skewers so they don't show.
- Arrange the magnolia leaves around the back of the wreath, "stitching" them into place with florist wire.
To stitch the leaves, use a long length of wire with one end attached to the back of the wreath. Bring the loose end of wire through the leaf near the rib and back down through the leaf on the other side of the rib. Tighten the wire and wrap it around a skewer at the base of the cork. Continue sewing and wrapping until all leaves are secure. Secure additional leaves on the inside edge of the wreath.
Now you have a unique Christmas wreath to bring cheer to friends and family. Recycled corks and natural materials dominate for a unique look that won't be found on the house next door. More wine bottle recycling Christmas projects include garland made from wine bottle foil and wine cork reindeer. Now every part of the bottle your wine comes in can be recycled. Cheers!
